Default Gold Rush

Anybody have an idea what the Gold Rush course is
like?

There is a map on the race web site but is is very low
resolution. The race info says the 50k race is three
laps and the 30k is 2 laps. This doesn't make sense
unless the 50k race is really only 45k or they add in
an extra 5k somewhere.

Thanks!

Three loops 50km with an additional section not done by the shorter race.
The course basically starts on the top of one sideof a valley, screams down
to the base and up the other side, and back up to the start, with three
major climbs on each loop. Usually a firm course the first loop, softer the
second and mush the third. And all at 6,000 to 7,000 feet. No problem.

I skied it for the first time last year. Extensive (OK, rambling) commentary
is at:
http://bmary.com/GoldRush03.html
scroll down to the bottom of the page for a much better scan of the course
map. If you look at the bottom right corner of the map you see that the 50k
(Gold) rush takes Franny and Short Circuit to add a coulple of km. The 15k
(Bronze) and 30k (Silver) rushers bypass this little loop.

Oh, and I forgot to mention: the "course profile" as shown on the map is
more like an "artist's rendering" of the profile. This is not a gently
rolling course. It is a typical Tahoe course with plenty of technical
action. It's also groomed well. Also, remember that the start time is 8am -
not 9 or 10, like most races around here.

Hi all,

Thanks for trying to answer the questions. I've posted a better map on
the Gold Rush page on the Far West Nordic website. It will be an
improvement over the older version. Please let me know if it's still
difficult to read. You can go directly to the map page he

http://www.farwestnordic.org/goldrush/gr_map.html

SkiBoyBob and Frontrunner were correct in their description of the
extra 1+ km. loop in the middle of the course for the Gold Rush
competitors only. If you have any additional questions, please feel
free to write me at the Far West Nordic e-mail (farwestnordic.org).

You are all insane. This race sucks. Imagine the worst, most painful
racing experience and cube it. It's that bad, but only if the weather
is nice. If it rains (every third year) then you'll be cursing your
mother for ever bringing you into the world.

Hey BT,

Instead of complaining about it, maybe you should learn how to skate
and it won't hurt so bad. That klister wears off after around 35 km.
BTW, it only rains every 4th year.
