Really Neat Thermometer
Just purchased a really neat non-contact pocket thermometer.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93983 Point it at snow and it tells you the snow temperature. Might be better than the standard Swix snow thermometer because it gives true surface temperature which you will be skiing on instead of the temperature a centimeter under the surface. Point it at your iron and it tells you iron temperature. Neat! Ski Exuberantly, Hank Mammoth Lakes, California If Cross Country ski racing were easy it would be called football. |

Really Neat Thermometer
What the store write up doesn't say is accuracy is rated at +/- 2C
(4F). Hank, to what degree have you tested it? Are there any reasonably priced guages out there? I've found the Toko models to be off and, of course, those Swix outdoor clock thermometers are a joke. Is taking snow surface temp sufficient? Is there any radiating effect from below? rm Terje Mathisen wrote: wrote: Just purchased a really neat non-contact pocket thermometer. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93983 Point it at snow and it tells you the snow temperature. Might be much, _much_ worse since it is almost certainly far from accurate enough around 0 C. :-) Point it at your iron and it tells you iron temperature. Neat! If it actually works accurately, then yes. However, accurate IR-based thermometers tends to be several orders of magnitude more expensive. :-( |

(It is snowing as I type this. Groomed Nordic skiing is done for the season, but people are reporting that ski skating is great on the corn snow.)
