Default V2 Aero speed reducer spring

Just lost the spring and the bolt it was attached to - probably got
loose and fell off. Is the spring a specialty item or can I get one at
a hardware store?

Thanks!

Probably a generic item. Can you take off the spring from the other
ski and look for a similar one at a hardware store? Also, check
mcmaster.com and smallparts.com

Just give Jenex a call and they will send you one. I've purchased them at
hardware stores.

I've talked to V-2 about them using a torsion spring for that application,
but have yet to experiment myself. I think it would be more elegant.

A Warning:

These springs eventually corrode and become weak, allowing the Aero
speed reducer "U" piece with the bearings on it to vibrate on rough
roads. If it moves enough, the black actuator lever can pop off of
the serrations on the U piece. The first time this happened to me the
lever jammed unter the ski, causing me one of my worst falls, on my
elbows without pads on rough chip seal. I don't think this can happen
if the speed reducer is engaged, but I almost never engage it on my
skaters.

Now I replace the springs when they get loose, look down and check the
levers after a rough patch of road or crossing the railroad tracks,
and always wear elbow and knee pads. I feel like a wimp wearing pads
when I see all of these highly ranked young skiers in pictures and
videos without, but I hate road rash, even if it's only one fall every
few years.

I have also heard of this happening however I've been using my aeros
for...let's see here..7 years and as long as I replace the spring when
it's becoming stretched and not completely worn out, i've never
experienced it. I do frequently tighten all the screws and bolts
though because they do have the habit of rattling loose. I guess
rollerskiing will never be as safe as the real thing!!
