Aamodt out with injury.
Kjetil Andre Aamodt was seriously injured during training in Sølden in
Austria earlier today. He fell in a gate, his father Finn Aamodt said on Norwegian radio today, and broke his leg during GS training in Sølden. He will be out at least until January next year, so he will not be able to fight for the overall WC victory this season. Favorites? Didier Cuche, Stephan Eberharter, Ivica Kostelic, Bode Miller, and others. Outsiders? Hermann Maier. Maybe even Lasse Kjus? If he can stay well, that is, and focused, too. |

Aamodt out with injury.
Eberharter barely beats out Maier with Bode going for third in the overall.

Thanks for the news. Sorry to hear it though. Any info as to the location of the break and the severity? Not too much news yet, but in his ancle or foot, not too severe luckily, but of course more than enough to ruin at least most of the first half of this season for him. WC comeback maybe sometime in January next year, but who really knows for sure, these things just tend to take some time, you know. Bad luck, but I guess it just had to happen some time or other, because he has escaped injury so many times before. I guess his luck just had to run out some time or other, and luckily his injury is not too severe. I seriously doubt that his future career is in any real danger, this injury does not seem that severe to me. He has stated previously that he will go on at least beyond Turin/Torino 2006, and probably quit after the 2007 World Championships, when he will be 35-36, if all goes well and according to plans. |

Don't be silly - this is Miller's year, if he doesn't succumb to American's Disease, AKA complete psychological and physical collapse from too much partying. Yeah, you're right. Bode wins the overall while Eberater and Maier fight it out for second. Afterwards, there will be lots of American Disease. |

But, he will be out at least until January next year, and very likely even a bit longer. This obviously means that he has no chance whatsoever to fight for the overall WC trophy this coming season. Definitely bad news for our Vikings team. |

m... Eberharter barely beats out Maier with Bode going for third in the overall. Glad to hear that Maier is back for a full season (had an injury scare a few weeks ago). Hopefully (for Bode's sake) Rossi has the bugs worked out of their bindings this year. I'd love to see a close battle between any on the above mentioned racers. Bode (fellow American), Maier (comeback), and Eberharter (the "old man" (35 in March)). I really feel bad for Aamodt. I think Ivica is too much of a SL specialist to be a threat for overall - yes? Same goes for Kalle Palander. But, I am looking forward to see if Kalle can repeat his SL cup results. At the same time, I'm expecting a much better year in SL for Bode. Ralves in the DH! On the women's side, I can't wait to see what Koz does now that she's training with the US ski team again. And for my current favorite ski racer - Janica (this is easy) Kostelic - I hope that she is recovering well from her recent bout of knee surgeries (4 in the last 5 months). :-( Bring on the White Circus! -- Marty |
