Erolina and Finnish Poling Machines
Does anyone have experience using either of these poling machines?
I'm wondering about price, performance, and reliability? |

HFL used to have an ercolina in their wellness center. My daughter used to train on it. All reports were positive when first purchased- maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Not sure if it is still working or not. I remember talking to the Italian that sold them- If I remember correctly, he was into roller ski racing. A nice guy to deal with and the machine arrived in a reasonable time. Bernie can give you a first hand report. Joe |

Erolina and Finnish Poling Machines
I can't find the link offhand, but if it's the Italian one, the Erolina
is expensive, somewhere towards $2K I think. It looks well built. The old Exer-genie, now know as The Trainer, does much of the same for a little over $100. The problem with any of these exercise machines and gizmos is motivation. It's hard keeping it up over time at home, alone. Has anyone used this religously and how has it worked out? - Bob I've used max-strength TheraBands tied to a tree for years. I recall they cost about $20 from a PT online catalog. One year I used innertubes every day for 5 minutes to actually boost my performance---when we only had black ice for speed-skating but no ski-snow---and I still kept good DP arms in this way for top 10 Michigan results. In general I like using elastics as a boost for core strength. In the fall, I do a quick 5 minutes on them as a supplement to bike riding errands on days when I don't RS or when RS isn't very hard. My routine is that I do SP, DP, and rigid-arm crunches then turn around and do SP and DP *recovery*. I do 20-40 easy reps then 10-20 max reps. I also do chopping motions somewhat like V1 at max resistance. So I use the bands in a definite but very limited role---real easy to do, takes no time---I feel it gives me a nice little power/core boost at a time of year when I need a little touch-up. I've also used them for a week or two to get myself better prepared for seakayak rolling season. A little boost is better than nothing. --JP |
