I knew you'd find it. The race results were published in the gold town
newspapers, which still exist in the archives.

There are race revivals these days. IIRC Soda Springs hosts a
competition every spring. Boards are available to borrow if you'd like
to try?

I seem to remember some sort of event from when I lived on the N.
Shore. It was a ski race on barrel staves or something like that? And
I seem to remember that it was a throwback to the olden days.

My father told me once he had made skis out of barrel staves in his
youth (Vermont in the 30's). To get to his high school, he had to
travel 3 miles downhill to the bus stop, and even in my youth (50's)
that road would sometimes be unplowed for a couple of days after a big
dump.

The winners hit (hand-timed) 60+mph which made them the fastest people
on earth at the time. Nothing faster in 1860. I don't think they
realized it, or their papers would have made more of the point.

The ski museum you linked is worth a visit - right on I-80 just west of
Donner Summit. Plans are afoot to move the museum to Squaw Valley, but
not yet.

Also good is the Donner Summit museum at the Soda Springs exit.

Thanks for the leads. Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. My wife
and I are driving up to Davis for the weekend to see two soccer games,
but we have Saturday free. I know she will be happy with a trip to
Lake Tahoe if she thinks it is a casino trip. I hope to squeeze in
the skiboot shopping and museum visit.

Sat. near a Starbucks even. Probably there for the whole day if
anyone wants to come down and say hello. Most of you have my phone
number.

No one else up for a day at The Market? By the sudden lack of posts
disappearing I'm thinking that someone came up with an emergency trip
out of town? Here I am. Time and place. But only one person coming to
see me. Oh well, we had fun last time we got together.

See you soon....................errr............Yabahoobs. .......:-)

You ain't gonna be there, and I'm not going to wait, want to see the

hanging out with a bunch of ex football player buddies, and several
will be there to witness you calling me a child molester in person and
getting what you deserve.
How about you wear an orange dress so people think I'm bitch slapping

* * I'm wrong most of the time. *I just know enough info to get me in
trouble. *I was looking up some stuff about Snowshoe Thompson, when
there was info *and a history about these mining camps, and they
actually challenged Snowshoe Thompson to a race. *

Is Snowshoe Thompson any relationship to Tranny Boob Thompson? Nah,
can't be. Snowshoe was a man. Snowshoe was born with balls.
And Bob Thompson is a doper. Cocaine dope, meth dope, dope dope, dope.
