Salmon Hills update
Letter from Hans Karlsen: Salmon Hills Resort News: - New York
(I will keep you posted via list serve of any news I receive....Clara - Tug Hill Tourathon) As of 14 July, 2004, I am the owner of Salmon Hills Resort. Hans Giuliani informed me he is stepping down and moving to Puerto Rico to return only to Salmon Hills Resort as my guest. He will share all his experience and historic data, but will not physically be grooming the ski trails etc. The GREAT news is that we will be getting "fresh young blood" into the business. I'm working with John Leuenberger and waiting for him to give me a definite acceptance to be the daily manager. We share the same goals and interests, and I can see us taking the Salmon Hills Resort to a whole new level of superb outdoor recreation programming with cross country skiing as the primary activity. You know how we Norwegians are fanatics about cross country skiing - John is up there too. One of my goals would be to put on a world cup race in 2010, but for now the biggest concerns are to get the place back "on track" and start generating money. I would like to run a summer ski camp for a week for kids right before school starts. In my basement I have a few hundred new pairs of roller skis and boots that I'd like to put to good use. We will be having volunteers work with us almost every weekend until the snow falls, and the details will be posted on a web page. Starting right away we will offer a limited number of life time memberships for $2750 like some of the other xc ski centers in the US. We also encourage season pass holders to sign up early to financially support us in "making ends meet". The operators from last season cleaned out the ski lodge and took with them all the furniture that belong to Salmon Hills. It would be great if our skiing customers would be able to help us with donated furniture or furniture from garage sales to get started. (Know beggars cannot be choosers, but we would like to see all furniture before we take it). Old ski, skate, snowshoe, dog sled, hunting, fishing, etc., equipment will be on the list to acquire too for decorating inside the lodge. Eventually when the finances allow it we would like to get a western theme that go with the lodge log structure. Sometime soon I'd like to see a nice fireplace that has rocks on the inside as well as the outside serving a double purpose as a climbing wall. To cut back the blackberry bushes along the trails I was hoping to get in touch with somebody that works with the crew that maintains the highways. They have these weed whackers mounted on a boom on their tractors and it could reach where a regular tow-behind weed whacker cannot go. What would you like to see at SH to make it better? Hilsen, Hans |

news:001001c46d0e$685cd2e0$6f511340@s0023400664... Letter from Hans Karlsen: Salmon Hills Resort News: - New York One of my goals would be to put on a world cup race in 2010, ........... Good luck to Salmon Hills on hosting a World Cup. We are hosting World Cup races in December 2005 at Sovereign Lake (Vernon, BC) and Canomre, AB. These are the first World Cups in Canada in about 15 years. The 2010 Olympics give North America a toe in the door to getting permanent North American spots on the World Cup. I hope that areas such as Salmon Arm follow through an can actually pull it off. Hosting a World Cup is a very large financial commitment and we have to develop the media experience and coverage to make it viable the way it is in Europe. Getting more players in the game can only help everyone. Hopefully by 2010 we will have various venues competing to host World Cups rather than having to search for anyone capable of pulling one off.
