For Austria: Hintertuxer gletscher (hintertuxergletscher.at) open all
year round.
Don't go to Kaprun. Too small.

to go again, I've been hearing a bit about summer skiing on glaciers. Now I
don't know anything about this, but what's the difference between skiing in
summer and winter, is there difference with the snow on glaciers, where are
the best resorts for summer skiing, do any travel agents do this or do we
have to go direct?

Sorry for the many questions, any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I have another question. After getting many replies from people about
places to go for summer skiing, we have finally booked Les 2 Alpes for July.
My question is, are we still going to need to take the winter skiing gear,
jacket/sallopettes etc, or won't we even use them, not having any clue what
the temperature is going to be like?

Thanks again

Michele

I went summer skiing a few years ago. Take your ski gear.
At 8am at that altitude the weather is cold, and does become very warm
before lunch, however the weather can change dramatically. I'll never forget
a sight at the top of La Grand Motte. Five minutes earlier the weather had
been fine and sunny. People stepped out at the top of the mountain wearing
jeans and t-shirts, without gloves, into a blizzard at minus temperatures.
Be aware of falling on sugary snow, it can be painful, as it acts like
sandpaper on the skin.
