Default Crowds

We go to one of the French resorts every year, and have always managed to
avoid the Feb holiday crowds. However I am definately going in the week of
Feb 18 in 2006. Where are the crowds least bad? What are the non-French
resorts like? Any advice and hot tips welcome.

To avoid crowds, go to central Switzerland. If you have your car, you can
go to a different resort every day. I've skied on new year's day twice in
Klewenalp, and it was a pleasure.

Most of the resorts there are fairly small, so transport is necessary so
you don't get too bored with the same pistes all week. But it is great for
getting away from crowds.

Not easy to avoid the crowds in Feb in France - some of the really small
resorts are ok, but depends on your needs, level? Après ski required?
Some parts of the really big domains usually remain pretty quiet - eg
Villaroger (Les Arcs). A couple of times we've toured between less
popular resorts in the southern French Alps, spending a day in each. Can
be fun - and little or no queues.
