Default small travel iron for base prep?

Hello,

can a recreational skier who doesn't need to do base prep that many
times a year get away with using a small travel iron to prep the skis?
It's a small travel iron made by Franzus and it has basically only 3
temperature settings: 160 C, 200 C and 260 C. (No, it's not a steam iron.)

Or do I really need to get a skiing-specific waxing iron? If so, are
there any models out there for a person on a low budget?

Thanks

Toko has a "Wax Mouse" that is a lot cheaper than replacing a damaged
ski. The issue is temperature stability, especially if you are trying
to apply a cold wax.

That said a have an old travel iron (no holes w/ Teflon base) that I
use to set base binder wax and my first layer of grip wax. These
softer waxes melt at low temperatures and I only need a couple of fast
passes with the travel iron to set the grip wax.

Reliable Racing sells the wax mouse under the Wintersieger name for
only $45. I have one and it's a carbon copy of the Toko, just a diff
color and diff graphics. It works exactly the same even has the same
dial
