wood ski base prep question
I have come into a pair of wood skis I would like to get up and
running. They were stored for probably ten to fifteen years without any base prep or protection, and the bases are very dry and a bit warped so that the edges are quite a bit lower than the ski center near the tips and tails. I suspect this is due to shrinkage of the base wood during drying without shrinkage of the plastic coated top layer. Is there anything I should do to rehab the dry bases before attempting to pine tar and wax? I think trying to scrape to flatness will result in too much material removal, would trying to remoisturize with mineral oil or other wood treatment make any sense? Cheers, from Baltimore, Sanjay |
