Vermont resorts...open for Thanksgiving?
So we're itching to go skiing for a couple of days (a feeling many of
you share, I'm sure). What kind of conditions can we expect in Southern-Middle Vermont, (Stratton, Killington, Mount Snow or Okemo) during the last weekend in November? How 'open' will these places be? Which one would be a better option based on snow-making and lifts (forget terrain - I'm only an early intermediate)? P.S. - Due to logistics we would *prefer* not to go further North, but would Stowe have better snow that early? |

I hate to cop out, but it depends. If there is cold weather most of
November, all the areas could cover a lot of trails with snow and you can find the mountains as much as half open. If there are too many warm days, you might be dealing with maybe 4-5 open trails. I don't think going further north will buy you much more snow. It can, but generally, if its cold to make snow at Stowe, it's cold enough at K-Mart, Stratton, etc.... As far as snowmaking, I'd have to give the edge to Stratton or K-Mart. It seems Mt Snow will only make snow when absolutely necessary. Your best bet is to call ahead. The resorts will often give a projected number of trails they'll have open for the weekend. Just wait until the last minute. There will be loging. If the amount
of open terrain was the same I would go for Stratton as an intermediate, but Killington is likley to have more terrain. |
