Talked to Skischule Uri in Andermatt, they dont have good snow at the moment. A colleague was in Zermatt yesterday and reckoned conditions were pretty good, but as she's recovering from a broken ankle I don't suppose she went off-piste. But it's 85% open, so probably worth a punt. Next door Saas Fee's looking pretty good too, with better runs to resort at the mo. I'm hoping for a big dump before I head down there on Friday. There's been no snow across the country for a few days and it's been relatively mild, although it was near zero around here (nr. Basel) last night so perhaps it's getting colder again. -- Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |

Yup, same for the Tarentaise, mebbe some wet stuff tomorrow but only falling as snow above 2000m..... for info - reasonably reliable 7 day 'general' forecasts here for each of four departments - Isère, Haute Savoie, Savoie, Hautes-Alpes... http://www.avalanche-net.com/meteo/index.php Pete |

Yup, same for the Tarentaise, mebbe some wet stuff tomorrow but only falling as snow above 2000m..... It's quite weird, actually. Round here it's foggy and down to about -5 overnight, at a guess, meaning there's been a fair deposit of hoar frost on the roads. Glad I put the winter tyres on the Volvo at the weekend. -- Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) Ski Club of Great Britain - http://www.skiclub.co.uk All opinions expressed are personal and in no way represent those of the Ski Club. |

Someone mentioned temperature inversion to me t'other day. Below freezing on the valley floor, but rarely cold enough to get the cannons going at altitude - over the past 4/5 days I've seen just the one half-heartedly working at Arc 1600. The snow from the end of November still lying on the ground though, here at 850m. First piste basher of the season working the Cachette slope at the moment, they'd accumulated a fair bit of the artificial stuff during the second half of November, hopefully enough to at least keep to the opening date of the 11th at Les Arcs - though there'll be b... all open - no significant snowfall forecast before the weekend, that's for sure. Hi
p.s. Simon, I do wish you'd bottom-post and/or put your sig right at the bottom of the post - most decent (i.e. not outlook) newsreaders snip everything below the dash-dash-blank line, so any earlier context needs to be manually c&p back in. That is how it should be. Unnecessary quotes should be removed by the newsreader and simon provides it by putting it under the dash-dash-blank line. Florian |

Strange you should mention the temperature inversion there. I remember the most extreme one I'd ever seen when holidaying in Arc 1800 a few years back. Left Arc1800 in my car and the temp gauge was +2 C... by the time I got to the supermarket at the bottom of the hill, it was -7 C and bloody icy! The trees along the valley on the road towards Tignes didn't lose the ice all week, whereas up top it was pretty damn warm. Must be a local B.S.M. thing... ) |
