Ok, I bought a pair of size 11 boots. The overhang in the front and
back is only 1-1.25 cm, which looks like much less than the rentals I've used up to this point. I'm leaning towards exchanging the board for something a bit narrower, but am having trouble finding anything in the 25cm width range. Opinions? Thanks for the responses. |

Ok, I bought a pair of size 11 boots. The overhang in the front and
back is only 1-1.25 cm, which looks like much less than the rentals I've used up to this point. My personal preference is for about 1cm or 3/8" overhang front and back. However... that is my personal preference and is probably a little low for most. I would think the generally accepted "ideal range" is 1.25 - 2 cm front and back. As a beginner, too little overhang could make it harder to progress. On the other hand, if you;ve goit 1.25 cm, you're probably "good enough". Can you get the full purchase price toward and exchange? If you can, sure, go for it. If not, is it worth it??? I'm leaning towards exchanging the board for something a bit narrower, but am having trouble finding anything in the 25cm width range. Opinions? I haven't ridden any of these - I'm just offering up some possibilities in the width you mentioned, and ones that I suspect might be beginner-friendly without holding you back as you get better... Others who are less "carving-oriented" might have better suggestions. Donek Phoenix 160 Salomon AMP 159 Lib Tech Emma Peel 159 Burton Clash 161 Ride Decade 160 Do some research - visit several companies' websites and starting checking out the specs of various models, there are tons of ~25cm waisted boards out there. I'd say keep what you have. If not, I'd suggest Palmer Classic, which I believe to be one of the best board bargains out there. That is, if you don't want to search for good deals on expensive stuff For the record, I wear size 9.5 and a 26cm waist board feels perfect to me. I still have some trouble with heels digging into the snow when I go super-hard on the heel-side turn in steep soft stuff. Went over the handlebars once last weekend at Mammoth this way. Yes, 25cm will be a bit more easier edge to edge. I find a .5cm difference in waist to be almost completely irrelevant with proper technique. Length, sidecut and flex are much more important IMHO. |
