At least the helmet is padded. If you hit your head on ice while ice- skating you know that even wearing a hat helps compared with skull-to- ice contact. You're probably one of those girly-boys who figure skates. I wear a helmet while skating because there's a puck flying around at about 150 mph, and somebody's coming at you with a big wooden stick. In article , downhill wrote: The other side of the coin is your telling me I can ski down this slope at speeds greater the the national speed limit and all I need is this little plastic cap on my head to do it legally. The most important thing of going fast, is control of the situation. Going into a tuck on a crowded slope at the end of the day, is reckless, Doing it on a glacier with no one around or on a course can be part of training. This is the run that Natasha Richardson went down at Tremblant, it is pretty pedestrian. What change a bunny slope fall into a lethal injury is the surface.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7q9uLO9NqM you missed my point.... you can not legislate common sense |

History taught you morons nothing?-) Can someone find out if she was skiing or snowboarding? She was with an instructor. When you're skiing, you usually wipe out sideways. But on a board, you fall forward or backwards and the head bounces off the ground. I learned how to board this year and bounced my head off the ground a few times. Lucky for me, I had a helmet on. It hurts really bad if you fall backwards down the hill, that's when the head bounces off the ground like a basketball. Even with the helmet on, it still hurt for a few days. |

Got a cite? http://tinyurl.com/cfdvlu "The Nansen run, where Ms. Richardson fell and reportedly hit her head on the ground, was filled with children and families on March break who were drawn, like the British-born actress, to the gentle grade of the hill." Thanks. I've skied Tremblant many times, and was wondering which run. IIRC, Nansen has a little tunnel under a road near the base - it's possible to hit one's head on the concrete underpass. There's also sometimes exposed bare rock along the sides of the run. So I don't buy the "there's nothing hard to hit" on that run. //Walt |

For most people overkill and an example of self-aggrandizement. |
