This weekend I am making biltong.
Google it. I'll let everybody know how it turns out. If this is successful, it's likely to be a useful and yummy trail snack that's easy to make in colder climates. Jim in Texas |

Jim in Texas I always be careful with dried meats like biltong, beef and turkey jerky as trail snacks. As much as they can be tasty on the trail, and lightweight. They need lots of waters to metabolize, and if you drink lots of water while eating the jerky, it can give one a very bloated feeling, as it expands in the stomach. I have a friend tell me the time when he drank all this water after eating all this turkey jerky while backpacking on the first day of a weeklong backpacking trip.. |

Europe doesn't has a different version of socialism that the USSR's or what the racist pig in the white house is trying to install here. Not that I am in favor of the European version either. But the experience of those that scream the loudest about something like racism being the most racist themselves, or those that wail about intolerance being the most intolerant, aren't as common there as here. You won't see the "occupy" crowd with their laptops and full kitchens denying those with less. |

But Bob, France and Holland have single-payer, GOVERNMENT health care! That's the ultimate in TYRANNY! Hitlerism! Stalinism! How can a free man bear to set foot in such places of oppression? Dave |

So you've had medical care in Holland? Because my family has lived under their "single payer" system. Those that can afford it opt out of it and pay for private insurance. Those that can/do not? Wait in long lines for ****ty care. And a board somewhere decides on the cost/benefit of your treatment. |

Even if this is all 100% valid and true, you're still missing one important point: people who cannot afford the private insurance are still able to get treated. People without health insurance in the US are subject to far worse troubles than just waiting in long lines. Dave |
