Backcountry sleeping bag
I'm looking to change my very abused 17 years old three-seasons
Pionner sleeping bag. I've had hundreds of cozy nites but it's time for an ultralight, comfortable, small, warm and weatherproof hi-tech version. I'm wondering wich would be the most respected of all ? The North Face? Sierra Design ? Mountain Hardware ? Western Mountaineering ? So far my feeling goes of the BodyRad from SD. Any comments ? Any suggestions ? I want the best. Wich is it ? samos |

Wich is it ? _ The mountainsmith Vision is a very nice light bag. I think they make a 0 degree version as well. From what I saw the Body Rad has some kind of waterproof breathable shell. Personally, I would avoid this based on my experience with a Dryloft bag. Clammy and cold around 3am no matter what the weather, takes forever to dry. The only reason to get such a bag is if that's going to be your only shelter (ie. insulated bivy.. ). Western Mountaineering makes very good bags, hard to go wrong there. Sierra Design has lot's of gimmicks that may or may not work. North Face gear is ridiculously more expensive for no apparent reason, however if you can get it on the cheap it's always pretty well made. Mountain Hardware makes good stuff as well. The competition is pretty fierce in the outdoor gear world these days, it's hard to buy a "bad" bag if you keep out of the low end of the line. _ If money is no object, get a custom bag from Feathered Friends. _ Booker C. Myself, I think that Western Mountaineering make mighty fine bags, but if I
were to buy a bag today, there is only one manufacturer that I would consider: Integral Designs, a small outfit in Calgary Alberta. Their products feature the absolute best workmanship and materials, and when you price compare, their prices are astonishingly low when compared to the other high end producers. A case in point: on a recent South American climbing trip, we had one Integral Design tent, one very similar design from an American tent manufacturer that gets absolutely top reviews and cost about 25% more. Upon use we all came to agree that the Integral product was far superior, and then later as if a message from heaven ( or hell) the US made tent failed catastrophically. The integral tent is still like new.
