Diverse ski events: SkiMeister, archery biathlon and suchlike...
(Once again, sorry for diluting Nat'ls focus but here's more of what
I've found wandering online...) I like outdoor action diversity. Here's a few events that have tasty diversity... Archery Biathlon seems like a pretty big deal. It even has a Worlds (I hope the US does well!): http://archerybiathlon.org/ Also, the new issue of XC Skier mag has a neat article about a Muzzleloader Biathlon in Steamboat. I googled it and found a newspaper story: http://www.steamboatpilot.com/sectio...al/story/21636 Then there's a Muzzleloader Snowshoe Biathlon in VT: http://www.primitivebiathlon.com/. The diversity idea also brings to mind the SkiMeister concept which is perhaps most interesting of all to me: I like the idea of scoring a wide variety of ski events including an "all in one" single-day championships, with several ski events maybe done on the same set of skis, maybe done continuously. Uphill, downhill, gates, jump, skate, classic on tricky singletrack. For instance. Hey, let's get carried away and include the multiday partner "raid" ski race in CO or UT. Of course in the Spring we have the classic winter multisport events of Pole Pedal Paddle and Ski to Sea (at least I hope they're still running) but it's a long way from Spring... --JP |

Archery Biathlon seems like a pretty big deal. It even has a Worlds (I
hope the US does well!): http://archerybiathlon.org/ Gee, this is the first time I have ever heard of archery biathlon. Seems like the National Team is a supporter. I assume it is much tougher than shooting with rifle since after hammering the poles one has to go to archer post (upper body strength) with steady arms at the same time. It wouldn't surprise me that there are many mis-fires which assures there won't be ravens flying at the course. If there is a club for mortal weakling skier like me I certainly will give it a try. I used to shoot bow and arrow in school, well long time ago, in the last century. (we are only in 2006). |
