Default 50K Club Report 11-16-03

It was a wet Sunday on November 16th in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Since I
visited the Afton Hills yesterday for some skate rollerskiing, my plan
was to go on a three hour cyclocross ride on the roads and trails of
Ramsey County. There's snow at a couple of the local downhill areas
but the warm temps (average for this time of year) in the 30s and low
40sF would make for soft skiing. Anyway, I kept waiting for the mist
to stop and the roads to dry out, which they didn't. My next move was
calling Tom Bengel to do some classic rollerskiing on the neighborhood
loop. His son Lee passed on the rollerskiing so it was just Tom and
me. We got in a little over 2 hours.

Since Jay didn't report on the 50K Club, I figured I'd add that info.

Three people showed up for the 50K workout:
-Bob Woodruff
-Pete Thurmus
-Jay Wenner (20 min late!!) comeon Wenner, get your fanny out of bed.

I skipped the "nordic neighborhood" and caught Pete and Woody on
Indian Trail. The three of us picked up Vern Wingman Winge on...what
is that, Stagecoach. Anyway, a bunch of cars were parked there, so
others were out skiing too. In Afton, I was too trashed from Sat
intervals to continue. Pete and I turned around while Bob and Vern
climbed the Coulee. 2:20 Total for me. Pete probably had 15 min more.
Another tid-bit of info: I've cut milk and wheat out of my diet to
find higher sprituality. I'm now eating kielbasa and swamp grass
(rice).

I want to hear more about this kielbasa and swamp grass diet!
Sounds like a variation on Atkins.

On a semi-serious note, I've recently added a protein powder
to my diet. Not looking to bulk up or add weight, just
a little better recovery and combating the slow inevitable
decline of muscle mass that sets in after 40 yr.
So I'm using TMO brand egg and milk protien suppliment.
It does seem to help me recover during hard weeks, and helps
me sleep at night by quelling raging hunger fits at 1am.

I still believe religiously in the efficaciousness of Quaker "Dipps",
chocolate fudge flavour. This was taught to us on this NG several
years ago by my friend Parham, who I hope is still monitoring the NG.
Just the right combination of fat, carbs and protein, I think he said.
The favour is actually not too hard to put up with.

Best, Peter

I like those Quaker products too but aren't they 100% partially
hydrogenated? That's some of the worst stuff you can put into your
system. For me it's like "the pot calling the kettle black" since I
eat so much junk and fast food. As a result, I at least try to keep my
energy bars healthy... It's probably all bad for you anyway. Some diet
guru said we were much healthier when we hunted game in the forests.
Apparently, allergies and other health problems started when we
evolved into an agrarian society.
