Default Sugarloaf (MI) Resort sold - may possibly reopen 2006

In other molehill news from flyover country, Sugarloaf has a new owner:

http://www.record-eagle.com/2005/mar/30sugar.htm

Sugarloaf is (was) the highest lift served ski hill in the lower
peninsula of Michigan. It closed in 2000 after being run into the
ground by a sleazebag businessman who wound up in jail over unrelated
business activities. It's stood empty for the last 5 years, and many
people have given it up for dead. Someone tried to open it two years
ago, but the lifts failed inspection and it never got going. Another guy
tried to run it as a non-smoking, non-drinking, Christian resort but he
never even got as far as an occupancy permit.

Now it has a new owner who's making noises about reopening it for
skiing. We'll see. I'm somewhere between skeptical and cautiously
optimistic. But I'd really like the chance to ski the Loaf since I
missed it the first time around.

Interesting backstory at

Drug abuse, tax evasion, Scientoligists, Skiers, shady businessmen,
local residents with pitchforks and torches, flames, accusations, and
discussion threads being closed by the moderator. What more could you want?

Too late. I've already gotten to them.
