Please, let me rephrase this. There is a big difference
between a two dollar bottle of wine and a two hundred dollar bottle of
wine. Understand?

Yep. One leaves you broke, the other leaves you with $198 to buy 99 more
bottles and throw a big party for the few remaining ski bums [cf other
thread.]

And some of us can't tell the difference and don't care. I just bought
a bottle of Manischewitz blackberry wine. Not as good as the
extra-sweet concord stuff, and neither is as good as plain old grape
juice. I'm wondering what something like vodka and grape juice would
taste like and would plain grape juice STILL be better...

I have made my own "wine" that way. *However, my wife heard I liked 2-
buck-chuck, so she bought two _cases_ from Trader Joe's. *we have no
need for faux-wine these days

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me that a two dollar hooker is
just as good as a two hundred dollar hooker.

Nobody has said it.

I've never had one of either. What is your professional judgement?

This is for Big Bear, right? I normally carry more than that in my PURSE!

While skiing I carry my car keys, a chapstick, contact rewetting drops,
GPS and/or camera MAYBE, and my CC etc.

You drink Canadian Club?

Yes you have. They all charge for it.

What is your professional judgement?

Professional? What makes you think I'm a professional?

Vote for Palin-Brown in 2012. Repeal the nightmares.

Merry Christmas everyone. God bless us all.

I think I see your point, but I was referring specifically to the $2
and $200 varieties. I have never found any of the former, nor been
interested in any of the latter.

You are a real connosewer.

ObSki: As no one else seems so motivated, I shall take it upon myself to
confirm that the skiing has been, is, and apparently will be, quite good
around here.

and it's not half bad around here.

As my cheapskate brother puts it: wine, beer, whiskey, cigarettes,
coffee, champaign, etc. The first time you try any of them you don't
like it. You have to *acquire* a taste for any of those things.

And if you're going to go to the time and effort of acquiring a taste
for something, you might as well acquire a taste for the cheap stuff.

I'm still trying to find a flaw in his logic....

There isn't any.

Try applying it to skiing - if only I could acquire a taste for beginner
runs I could ski for free all season.

Or ....shudder.... Nordic skiing...

I think that whether or not you can afford it is the reason whether or
not you think it's worth what it costs. In that respect they're the
same thing.

I'm going to play golf in Scotland and it's going to cost about $200
each per day at the Old Course. Expensive, we can afford it, AND WORTH
IT !!!!!! A round at Pebble Beach is $400 to $600 each. VERY
expensive, I could pay for it (whether or not "afford" is a different
question), but I don't think I'd have fun because I'd be thinking
about how much each shot cost me!!!!! But if I had 1000 X more money I
don't think it would bother me.
