Any words in there about skiing drunk? Any words you can find in the
apology about skiing drunk?

I didn't say he skied drunk. I said his misuse of the word "wasted" led
everyone to believe he had skied drunk. Anyone reading the transcript or
watching the interview would have come to that conclusion, with the
possible exceptions being you and Bode.

So how do you explain the fact that not everyone reading the transcript
or watching the interview _did_ come to that conclusion? How does it
happen that there were more than just two of us in the big wide world
who wondered if "wasted" didn't mean "hung over" rather than drunk?

Not "everyone". I didn't believe he had skied drunk. As I recall, they
were showing the tape of that race while the words came out of his mouth.
Did he look drunk to you?

Pity. He should have told them to get stuffed.

He never said the word "drinking" he referred to comments made. He
seemed like he apologized for the media distorting his comments.
Channel 7 ABC used a drunk skier as a promo to his apology story. Then
they did a segment on Drinking at work Mr Miller was referred too but
not by name
It is a small world here in UWS I will have some comments for the news
people on both ABC and CBS which I see in the neighborhood and a fund
raiser which I get dragged to.
Not that my comments will change anything, it is just nice to release
steam, and if I catch one with a drinkPARTY TIME

Can't we just follow Bode's lead, mumble some vague non-appology
appology, and move on?

Looks like it's finally going to turn cold enough tonight to start
skiing again. You probably won't get the front til Sunday.

I doubt it was sponsors, really. I suspect it was in some measure
pressure from Marolt, and maybe a more personal plea from his coaches:
come on, guy, we know you could chuck it all tomorrow and be fine with
it, but it would make things a lot better for _us_ if we had a good
showing at this Olympics...

Marolt was getting "swamped" with phone calls from angry sponsors and
donors.

So he says. No numbers and no names, there.

By the way, Chuck, howzabout that Bode Miller skiing drunk, huh? He
said "wasted" so it meant "drunk", right?

Have you actually read his apology? Or are you just trying to interpret
his words for us again?

I've read what was published (and I hardly think you're in a position to
talk about interpreting words). I'll provide you with a quote, as follows:

"I want to come straight out and apologize to my family and friends and
also the people who have supported me along the way," said Miller.
"Because of the way I made those comments in the 60 Minutes interview,
it caused a lot of confusion and pain."

Any words in there about skiing drunk? Any words you can find in the
apology about skiing drunk?

I'll also point you once again to the Denver Post column in which Bode
made it clear he was talking about being hung over, not drunk.

Now, if you can come up with something to refute all that, please do so.
Otherwise, it might be past time for you to eat some words of your own.

If he was out to 2-3 am and drank a lot, then he was probably still
technically drunk ( 0.1 BAC) at race time.

It was supposed to get here Saturday night, and in fact the temps are
dropping, snow and sleet overnight with small accum, lots of wind
tonight and tomorrow, 3-5 inches during the day tomorrow. It'll be yucky.

I take it you're not a child of the 60s? There's alot of ways to be
"wasted" and alcohol is pretty low on the list. And before you decide ad
hoc that I mean drugs, may I point out that the most common way to
be/become wasted in "MY 60s" was to pull an all-nighter to finish a
paper/project/read the dam text for the first time the night before the
final while stoking up on the bottomless coffee pot. That's "WASTED."

(You do know that Bodie is a second stage child of the 60s, doncha?)

70's. Guess the term meant something different by then. If I'd asked any
of my friends back then if they wanted to get wasted, an all nighter
would be the furthest thing from their minds. They'd know exactly what I
meant, and I'm not talking alcohol either. I'm talking "lumbo", "gold",
"herb", and "weed".

Anyway we've beaten this argument to death. If he meant something else
and 90% of the world misunderstood it, that's a shame. If I
misunderstood him I apologize to him and everyone else who was offended.

Yep. I know the whole bit. Grew up in the NH country side. No
electricity, no plumbing, yada, yada, yada. He'd feel right at home with
my Amish neighbors. Well... maybe not.
