How to remove Pilot Sport bindings?
Hi folks,
Can anyone give me any hints on how to dismount Pilot Skate Sport bindings? I bought a pair of used skis on ebay and want to switch them to NNN, but it's not at all obvious how to go about removing them (non-destructibly at least). These are evidently a step-in binding. -Mitch |

Don't have it in front of me right now, but aren't the screws under

How to remove Pilot Sport bindings?
Hi Gene,
Well, the screws are certainly in there. I can more or less locate them by prying with a screwdriver and find the points of greatest resistance. But there is no bumper like the Profil's I have disassembled, and I've been unable to figure out how to release the front cap/lever to get underneath it. It's sprung pretty tight. Same problems with the rear piece. There are no visible caps to remove to expose the screws in the heal plate. Not sure if it maybe slides on over the screw heads and uses the internal springs to keep it from sliding off, or if something more complex is going on here. I would expect that however they went together the process should be reversible. However I can't even find mounting instructions on the web, so I'm just poking at it with screwdrivers trying to find clues. I'm expecting the outer piece of the front cap somehow separates from the inner piece, but the spring hold them together so tight that it's difficult to find a release mechanism. About ready to fire up the sawzall!! ;-) -Mitch |

Earlier versions of the binding had a plastic plug holding the long heel plate, and the plate could be pried with a screwdrivier. If the plug broke in the process one would just put a screw in its place. Later versions have a screw holding the plate a priori, so prying won't work. The screw in the new version is hidden under a plastic cap. |

Well black doesn't photograph so well, but I tried. I have in the past removed Profil bindings that have the plug over the screw, but these Pilot bindings don't have any visible plug anywhere.
Here are links to a couple of photos. I hope they're helpful. The front section is easier to make out than the heel plate. How to remove Pilot Sport bindings?
The plastic peice immediatly behind where the toe bar goes (with the
two small arrows) should be popped of, maybe with a flathead screwdriver. Underneath this is two screws, which should be taken out. The entire binding (the black part - toe piece and plate) can then be slid forwards off of the white peice which is actually a seperate peice underneath, held on by 4 screws. Hope this works!
