ISO Opinions on Alpina Lite Terrain BC Skis
Any opinions on the Alpina Lite Terrain BC skis? I'm thinking about buying
them for my wife who is a beginning tele skier. She'll drive them with the Alico Ski Tour 75mm NN boots which is a lite leather BC boot and use them for BC touring plus turning when the opportunity arises. I'm interested in the ski's overall touring, climbing and turning performance and the match up with a lite tele boot. I've read some good things about the Cross Terrain, but this seems like too much of a turner for her needs and too much ski for her boots. I have the Fisher Ottabounds and really like them except they're kind of weak on the climbing side. Thanks. Brent Mahan |

I can't say I would recommend learning to tele on such light gear. IMHO, the learning curve is a lot faster if you go from heavy to light gear as your technique improves. I've read some good things about the Cross Terrain, but this seems like too much of a turner for her needs and too much ski for her boots. _ The Xterrain could work if you get them short enough. The Alpina postive waxless pattern climbs really well, but is a bit slow on the level. The flex on the Xterrain is much more like an alpine ski than a tele ski. I've no idea about the lite version, but I would try and check it out if at all possible. IMHO, getting your wife a pair of these along with some kicker skins would be the best solution. The fischers have a really nice flex for a combo tour/turning ski that would match up nicely with those leather boots. As an aside, regular old kick wax works fairly well on a negative pattern base like the Fischer's. Kicker skins are a lot simpler though. _ Booker C.
