Geneva to Verbier transfer
I am going to Verbier for a long weekend in January. Can anyone comment on
the relative merits of train/bus versus car hire for this particular journey? Mark |

Clarkson's whizz up the mountain by Ferrari looked to be more fun than the pair using the train and bus from the airport on last night's Top gear programme. Just a question of money I suppose ernest |

Just a question of money I suppose Yep, he got there from Guildford 2 minutes quicker than by public transport, so it doesn't quite justify the 6 figure price tag... Mark didn't say where he was travelling from, so it's hard to give a solid recommendation, but assuming you are flying into Geneva then rail + post bus is a possibility - not all that quick though (check the times at www.sbb.ch). If you want to get there quicker then car hire or a taxi transfer. For Verbier I think car hire will be cheaper ( *about* £100 for a group B for a long weekend ISTR). |

I am going to Verbier for a long weekend in January. Can anyone comment
on the relative merits of train/bus versus car hire for this particular journey? Went to Verbier last year via a mates house in Lausanne. Took just under an hour by train from Geneva to Lausanne, then took about 2 hours from Lausanne to Verbier. This was Via 2 trains and then a gondola from Martigny but no bus. The gondola was included in the ski pass. HTH -- kitemap http://ugcc.co.uk |

I went from Geneva to Verbier by train/bus in early April last season and had no problems. The train from Martigny to le Chable is pretty slow, but it's schedules shared the normal reliability of Swiss transport. The postbus to Verbier met the train, and worked fine. Once in Verbier the local bus to Medran was reasonably frequent. It ended pretty early, not really useful for dinners, though I found Verbier small enough to walk around when not wearing stiff plastic boots. Your...mileage...may vary, of course. I was staying 6 days - renting a car just to park it for 6 days seemed silly to me. A long weekend would presumably be less expensive. If you plan to travel elsewhere during the time you'd probably want the car, otherwise it seems like a bother. Tom. |
