Many thanks to all of you for your good input!

Tomorrow I'm heading back up to Castle Peak (Lake Tahoe area) again, but
unfortunately, I believe there is now powder there, dammit. And here I was
hoping to practice on breakable crust ;-) Oh well, I'm sure I will get
plenty of chances to do that.

_ Don't worry, you can ski breakable crust nearly all winter if
you want. Just start skiing before the sun rises.

OK, OK I've hiked all this stuff in the summer and skied elsewhere in
the winter. This thread is driving me nuts because it's all familiar
terrain and I don't live there anymore and can't, therefore, ski
there. However, the week after Christmas beckons. Viva Truckee.
