Childcare in Courchevel 1850?
Does anyone have any experience of finding independent childcare (for a 16
month old) in Courchevel 1850? I have spotted a package deal I would like to take advantage of but the tour operator does not offer childcare and I wondered how easy it is to arrange separately. The Courchevel resort web site just gives a list of phone numbers for local child minders but what I am looking for is a recommendation. Also, it seems strange that there does not appear to be a crèche for children under 18 months. Luke ------------------------- http://www.snowgo.com |

recommendation. Also, it seems strange that there does not appear to be a

Luke Well I don't know if the same attitude persists at all French resorts, but at Isola 2000 a couple of years back, whilst waiting in the queue, a British woman ahead of me was letting rip at the tourist info office about pretty much the same thing... basically it appeared from what I could grasp in the conversation that she had come to resort with her 13 month old expecting to find childcare and had been told it didn't exist for under-twos... The Tourist info lady appeared utterly flabbergasted that someone would consider leaving a child under 2 years of age in a ski kindergarten... From my limited knowledge of French, after the lady had stormed out, it was an attitude shared by many of her colleagues. They seemed to think it displayed a lack of parental responsibility bordering on the criminal to consider taking a child that young on holiday and then 'abandoning' it in a creche. I think I may have seen an article somewhere about special licensing and mega-insurance being needed for particularly young children in childcare on the continent, but that may not have been France, can't remember now... if that is the case, then you can at least understand why it's hard to find childcare at a particulary young age... Could also explain the maniacs (IMHO) who take young kids out on backpacks whilst skiing. What? You NEVER fall over? Sheesh... no way... |

Luke Well I don't know if the same attitude persists at all French resorts, snip I think I may have seen an article somewhere about special licensing and mega-insurance being needed for particularly young children in childcare on the continent, but that may not have been France, well FWIW our experiences, albeit several years ago in Alpe d'Huez, caused us to always use a brit operator like Ski Famille or Mark Warner, the "creche" at AdH was like a cloakroom where you had to pass the child over the counter and parents weren't allowed into the creche. Also you need a current certificate from a doctor confirming the good health of the child. Needless to say, we were glad when we found that the creche was full and avoided the decision. But we found a good nanny from recommendation from the SCGB rep. And our later experiences with Club Med and their very authoritarian approach to child care plus numerous examples cited by fellow brits convinced us that there may be something dodgy with French childcare - beware. Just look forward to when your children don't need looking after and can ski better than you - doesn't take them long! Mike |

AOL Ski in a resort with a Ski Club of GB Rep. Take turns around of who goes out. Didn't leave the young Rab whilst on holiday until he was three and then only with a properly qualified British Nanny looking after him in our Chalet. -- Hog |
