Default Nordic Races on Eurosport Network

Eurosport Network seems to have plenty of nordic racing, much of it live.
Has anyone found a way to view Eurosport in North America?

Default Nordic Races on Eurosport Network

the cable company in Alaska, GCI, has said that they could get it if they
have enough requests. So I have been trying to mount a campaign to get it
added. GCI added the Golf Channel last year with about 2500 requests. so I
figured that it could not be that hard withall the Nordic skiers in Alaska.

The problem is, GCI needs to have requests from folks who liv in areas that
can get Cable, and I need addresses. I have about 100 requests (mostly from
european transplants) after 2 months because no one wants to put their
adress down on a request. I brought it up at out annual Nordic ski club
meeting with about 4-500 people in attendance and only 15 people put their
names down. This is a real bummer about the lack of support for this....

I am going to have to work on the soccer, tennis and cycling clubs, as
EuroSport shows a ton of this as well.

I would welcome suggestions as to how I can get people to request the
channel. THey don't even have to agree to sign up, just request it...

thanks all,
-Ira

I wonder how they get it at all? There aren't any euro satellites visible from
the US, even the extreme east coast, so unless Eurosport 'exports' their feeds
for our benefit, I don't see how anyone can get it.

(C / Ku band satellite watching is one of my hobbies).

From where i'm living my teoretical west limit is Pas 45W (with 0.8 deg
elevation),
this is at the Brazilian coast so theoretical it would be possible to do the
oposite
also (from the American coast). But which beam are pointed to America and what
does
it carry. Maybe some beam that are pointed at Island can be received at the
northeast coast.

I watch PAS9 all the time (45 w). It carries Tokyo, Korea, China, and I believe
Germany on a beam to North America. Algezera TV is on there too, but
scrambled.

Alas, nothing other than Deuche Welle TV out of EU though.

I was hoping to pick up CBC TV, but they use a digital encryption that's only
viewable on $5,000 commercial receivers. SRC out of Montreal is available, so
perhaps some skiing will be shown on there this winter.

Do not put your expectations too high on SRC (my local station). I don't
watch much TV, but as far as I know, there has not been much, if any, x-c on
that station since the Games in Salt Lake.

Agree with JMC. Don't put any expectation on SRC since they never show
X-country skiing. CBC are much more better to present various sports!

How do you think OLN got their feeds? They were Eurosport feeds dubbed over
byt the OLN commentators. they do the same thin for the cycling races in
europe (not the Tour, as they have enought intrest to have thier own crew
over there, but all the motorcade feeds are off of eurosport). getting the
feeds IS very possible, but getting enough people to say they want them and
to put theier name down is the hard part.

Why do you all think OLN droppped the Nordic coverage that they put on the
last couple of years? They got almost NO feedback on it. ther is no way a
cable company is going to spend money to get a channel if they can not sell
advertising for it if NO ONE is watching it. And trust me, they thing no
one is watching these shows because NO ONE pipes up about how they want it.

up here in Anchorage, we have ~300k groomed trails, ~65k of which are
lighted . there are well over 20,000 people who ski regularly (between
racers and tour skiers) and more who are just occasional skiers, and after 3
months of putting notices up everywhere and making announcements at
meetings, and I only have 92 people who will put their name down to just
REQUEST this channel. There has got to be a way to get to these folks...

sorry for my ranting ...

Yes you are correct. But I believe this has to be arranged with Eurosport, it's
not a continuous feed that's always up there for the taking. (If it was, I'd be
all over it! ) So, how many local cable companies can afford that, I don't
know.
Also, I wonder how much programming is on DVD these days? I know that some
radio stations have part of their programming mailed to them on CD.

Perhaps someone in the broadcast industry could provide more insite.
