Default Attempt To Purchase Salmon Run/Hills.

I spent several weeks trying to purchase Salmon Run/Hills from the
couple that ran it last season. It was a bizarre experience
negotiating with this couple. They never closed on the morgage, so I
was advised they could not actually sell the resort. Many other
factors were suspect. The owners kept pushing on receiving $50,000
immediately. No time to see, or consult a legal advisor. He had an
answer for everything except when the lease on the ski trail property
expired with Niagara Mohawk Power. I beleive it is down to 4 years,
which is a tuff nut to crack. He also wanted to retain 5 acres and
have an active role in the promotion of the resort. This is really
scary considering he killed the business last winter. They never
contacted season pass holders, grooming reports were infrequent as
well as grooming. However, the lack of grooming has no reflection on
Hans who worked for them. Finally, they conveyed a hostile attitude
towards skiers. They felt they were cheap and there was no money in
running the resort as a ski center. They had really strange ideas for
the resort. Some of the more sane ones included a RV park, or a resort
totally dedicated to snowmobiliers. However, I beleive a buyer from
Syracuse will turn the property into waterfront homes soon. To bad for
western New York skiers.

........and too bad for eastern New York skiers, or skiers from anyplace for
that matter. I guess I'd just a soon see the place dead and buried than
operating under the bizarre management techniques of this last season. For
me racing the Little Birkie and Salmon Run on Hans prepped courses were
simply magic, even those times when the lake effect created bottomless pole
plants and silly slow times. I've yet to ski trails with better flow.

Sorry it didn't work out better for you, Doug, but thanks for attempting to
keep Salmon HILLS for the skiers. I think you're wise in stepping away from
financial commitment at this point, though. Time to live with the memories
and two holes in our race schedule which can't be filled. Where are all the
millionaire nordic skiers looking to buy a snow choked resort in the middle
of the Tug Hill boonies just for the hell of it?
