Seen by anybody who watches the patterns. And BTW, Marty, including
context is good if you want to have a discussion.

Sandbagging and faking injury (if I'm reading you correctly) at that
level of competition - how would that help Janica win the overall?

Don't ask me, ask Michaela Dorfmeister -- or any of the others who have
brought it up.

Oh please, come on. I know you're knowledgeable about ski racing and can't
believe you buy that ****.

Skiing is not only Austrian biggest national pride but also their economy
(winter resorts, equipment producers etc) rely big time on skiing role
models like Hermann Maier. Janica Kostelic comes from Croatia - a country
with virtually no ski resorts, uses French skis, boots & bindings (Salomon)
and wears Japanese racing suit (Mizuno). It was a huge embarassment for the
Austrians a couple of years age when Janica started to beat single-handedly
and consistently all the best Austrian girls. That was when they started to
invent lame excuses like that one.

As a mattor of fact, this weekend Janica Kostelic became only the third girl
in World Cup history to win races in all of the sport's five disciplines. In
two days she won back-to-back downhill and super-G on Austrian soil and left
Dorfmeister & Co. to deal with their jealosy.

Bad logic, dizzy. Very bad logic. Just because the Austrians _might_
have wanted an excuse for their performance in '02 vs. Kostelic (and
btw, what were those events she won again? Not exactly the Austrian
strength events anyway, and certainly not Dorfmeister's; she's a speed
event specialist), that doesn't mean that what they said isn't true. By
your argument, all that stuff that the New York Times released about the
Bush wiretaps _must_ have been a pack of lies, because they're a
left-leaning pinko rag and obviously wanted to do him in.

Oh, she's a miracle of modern surgery and pharmacy, all right. Bit, um,
temperamental, though, apparently.

Kostelic peaks at big events. That is what creates the gap between a true
champion and the pack. She's not only the current slalom, giant and
combination olympic champion and super-g silver medalist ('02) but also the
current downhill, slalom and combination world champion ('05). This season
she won World Cup downhill, super-g and giant races, had a podium place
after each slalom race and now leads the World Cup race by more than 250
points. Looks like opponents and critics can forgive you anything but one
thing - being successful.

Uh, well, if you really believe that, you'll never understand the other
side, so there's no point in talking about it. Continue to believe that
Janica "Medical Miracle" Kostelic walks on water. I'll make note of
your email so that I can say "I told you so" later.

Let's make a deal. We let it stay as it is until the Olympics in Turin and
then see who the one to say "I told you so".
