I guess you are too stupid to notice the general conditions, the fact
the last two years have been unusually wet, and that means a lighter than normal rain year should be coming. For sure there will be SOME snow, but is 2' enough to open the resorts in SanBernadino? Yes, big rains early Jan, but a solid 3' of packed base allows all the runs to open, not just the beginner run that you ride..... |

[snip] Yes, big rains early Jan, but a solid 3' of packed base allows all the runs to open, not just the beginner run that you ride..... Wanted to comment on the unusual conditions. Picked up some virgin powder at Mammoth this past weekend. Me and the wife loved the fresh powder on the black diamonds while the kiddies played in the tiny park they had set up outside Main Lodge. Of course I'm too stupid and unskilled to enjoy fresh powder at Mammoth this time of year on the harder to reach runs while eveyone else is Christmas shopping. Where were *you* this past weekend with your big talk and attitude? |

How's the bottom of your boards/skis...
This article is about BigBear, not Mammoth or Aspen. Mammoth always gets enough snow to make it worth the drive, but SanBernadino Mt. is a different story. It's now Dec6 or so, a few weeks after my initial prediction. Don't take a genius to figure what's happening so far...... I DID say an early Jan storm will open things, but they're desperate now, and even 1.5' of natural will have all the local resorts open......but as that your idea of good skiing/boarding in the SB mountains? Good snow in SB mountains? Sure, when was the last mudslide year? Was it '96? The year GreenMountain was open, when Baldy killed dat skier at SBowl (I rode it the day after), and when ski patrol took me OOB's off the easternmost lift at BigBear. It ain't happening this year. |

Follow the thread better. We switched to Mammoth.
Per my wife's rule.. we'll never go to Snow Summit or Big Bear again. She got addicted to Mammoth. Can't blame her. Totally excited that she can ride the blacks with me now. Heck, she even was the first to start poppin' tricks for the season. My first day is typically getting feel back in my legs. I agree about the SB mountains. Last year we were screwed because the mud slides blocked access to them. Plus, even if the roads are open, the conditions wouldn't be very good now. Bottom of my boards? Fine, but I was on powder and freshly groomed snow (not man made) the entire weekend. Happy to be riding so early this year. Typically wait until after the holidays. Already planning two more trips within the next month and a half. Boy I'm glad we bought into MVP last year. |

Not every news server carries every article posted to it. This can give people half a conversation. Of course it doesn't help when people use that crappy Google groups interface, because you actually have to press some extra mouse clicks to include the post you're responding to. People using google need to realise that this isn't a forum on their website, it's Usenet.
