Tuesday December 23rd: We (my wife Kathleen and I) arrived in Albany
at 1:45PM. Our original flight was scheduled to get in to Albany 2
hours earlier after a connection in Detroit. However, the flight was
oversold so they asked for volunteers. Here's what we got; $300 travel
vouchers on Northwest Airlines good on any flight, $20 in meal
vouchers good anywhere in the Twin Cities Airport and a direct flight
to Albany, REPEAT, a direct flight to Albany! In other words, no
connection through Detroit! Anyway, we cruised up to Saratoga where my
horse naturally won, er, I mean where the sister-in-law and CoBro
(common law brother in law) live. It just so happened to be my
mother-in-law's birthday so we all had dinner together. By the way, I
have the World's greatest mother-in-law. First, she lives 1500 miles
away from us. Second, when she comes to visit, we put her on the bus
for the casino!

Wednesday December 24th, Christmas Eve: I planned to go up to Reliable
Racing to get skis and poles from Dave Mathews. Then, I was going to
go skiing at Crandall Park right behind the store. However, big rains
stopped that plan. Instead, I just went to Reliable and got the skis
and poles from Dave and bought a ski suit for Big Jerry Engen. They
had a black Bjorn Daehlie suit on sale for $69! I hung out with Dave
for awhile and then headed back to Saratoga.

Thursday December 25th, Christmas Day: I got up early and took the
Visu skis and KV2 poles over to the Saratoga Spa State Park Golf
Course. They had a skate and classic trail groomed around the course.
Yeah, there was frozen water on sections of the course and the skiing
wasn't that good, but I hacked out an hour of skate skiing making my
way around the whole loop and then going back and forth on a one
kilometer section that was pretty decent. My motivation was the fact
that the FrontRunner and Birkebeiner Pete D would have done the same
thing. They always train in marginal conditions (however, this year
they have their own ski trail and groomer).

Friday December 26th: 30 minutes on the stair climber. Then, back up
to Reliable for some more hanging out... Later that night, I watched
the Johnny Cash tribute with singers like Mellankamp, Willie, Sheryll
Crow and Kid Rock performing his hits.

Saturday December 27th: I skied for 1 hour at Crandall Park. They
busted up the ice with the grooming equipment and the skiing was
pretty decent. I only had to portage around one spot where a stream
swept the snow away. Then, I walked across the parking lot to Reliable
racing where I found another Bjorn Daehlie ski suit. This one was red
and also went for $69. It was the last one there so I bought it. They
have some XL and XXL Swix suits for $99 and some L Craft suits for
$119. I also bought two hats and two pairs of gloves. Finn Sisu in
Saint Paul is my ski shop where I buy 95% of my gear but I always buy
stuff from Reliable Racing when I visit the in-laws becuase I want to
support Dave Matthews since he always lets me borrow his skis,
rollerskis and bikes when I'm in town.

Sunday December 28th: Lake Placid with Dave and Wendy Matthews! We
skied the Porter loop and hit all of the big climbs and descents.
Then, we ran into RSN poster Bob Maswick and RSN poster Doug Diehl. We
skied the biathlon loop with those guys and headed back to the day
lodge where Bob introduced me to RSN poster Ken Roberts. Then, Ken
introduced me to RSN poster John Forest Tomlinson. I talked to Ken and
JFT for a while. It was great to meet those guys! The total time for
the workout was 2 1/2 hours.

That brings me up to the RSN posters I've met;
The Twin Cities guys I've know for a long time;
Toby Markowitz, Bob Larson, Ken Salzberg, Gene Goldenfeld, Jay Wenner,
Brian May (Duluth), Jim Farrell, John O'Connell, Bill Stuber.

The Paw Paw, Michigan guys who I've know and skied with for about 10
years'
FrontRunner Greg Worsnop and Birkebeiner Pete D'Arienzo.

Vermont's Zach Caldwell who I met back in '95 at the Thunder Bay
Worlds.

Masachusetts' Rob Bradlee who I met at the 2000 National Masters.

Norway's Terje Mathisen who I met in the fall of '97 when he came to
Minnesota for the World Masters Orienteering Championships.

Colorado's Nathan Schultz who I've know for years since he comes to
the Birkie every year.

New York's Gary Jacobson who I've skied with several times at Garnet
Hill and now, John Forest Tomlinson.

New Jersey's Ken Roberts who I met yesterday and wmappraiser.

Got groomer, but no got snow. We have had about 5 days on Rosie's run in
the two shots of snow we have had. Today was the worst of all
worlds...Rollerskiing in December in the rain. I did go up to the Vasa
trail in Traverse City on Saturday an got in 52km of slow skiing due to soft
conditions and warm temps.

The FrontRunner
"What do you mean marginal.....1km of partial cover with only a couple of
bare spots....Priceless!

Hey, I was there. Must have missed you guys!

New York's Gary Jacobson who I've skied with several times at Garnet
Hill and now, John Forest Tomlinson.

And Doug Diehl, who you just mentioned meeting earlier in this message.
