Default Rex Grip Tape

Dear All,
Else where made an interesting recommendation to use Rex Grip Tape.
I am attracted by there convenience and that fact that my bases, after many
years rock and heather hoping in Scotland are quite worn. I was wondering if
any one out there would like to share their experiences of this tape.
Thanks
Neil

Try searching the group - I seem to recall it has been discussed
before. I have only tried it once and it did work well in difficult
waxing conditons. (new snow at zero degrees)

I have used the Start Grip tape version, and liked it a lot; super temp
range and very durable (hundreds of KM!)

My wife and I have used Rex Grip tape with great success. It works on
cold, icy tracks, transformed snow, artificial snow and even hard
packed powder. I've shortened the application similar to a klister
application by about 10cm total with 5cm shorter in the front and 5cm
shorter in the back of the kick zone.

It's also similar to klister in that it picks up debris from the trail
such as pine needles, leaves, etc.

If you follow the application directions that come with it, the tape
will last for a long time.

Interesting Greg, you raise the question of how you clean this stuff. If the
temperature goes above 4 C would you ask wax?
Thanks.

Yes, you can add regular kick wax over the grip tape.

For cleaning or removing the grip tape, I cover the tape with
fiberlene, run a warm iron over it then scrape with a putty knife to
get most of the tape off of the bottom. you can also use a heat gun
and putty knife. For final clean up, I use a wax remover to get the
kick area clean.

I recently came across a quicker way to clean the kick zone. Tape
off the kick zone and start with wax remover soaked in for a second, and
then use a regular plastic scraper (the dirty spare). One pass, perhaps
a little more remover, another pass and wipe seems to do it quite
well.

Rex advertises it as lasting 100's of K's. If it picks up stuff, pine
needles, heather, etc., is it possible to clean this off and leave the tape.
Thanks

I hate having wax remover bleeding all over my skis. Taking Greg's
technique one further down the food chain, I use the cheapest toilet
paper I can find (forest service, locker room, etc) instead of wasting
fiberlene. I prefer an old plex scraper instead of a putty knife, but
I've got lots of them and few putty knives laying around.

In answer to Neil's follow-on, you can just gently scrape/pick crud off
the grip tape. No, you can't clean it, and at 5-10 Euros a box, why
bother? If you are paying a small ransom to go on holiday, don't skimp
for the sake of a $2 wax job. You can decrease the tendency to pick up
crud with a very light dusting of pure flouro powder - just enough to
take the tackiness off the surface. Doesn't change the glide much, just
keeps it cleaner.
