Utah The Canyons

Now looking for a possible trip to the Canyons in Utah. A friend at work says the best way to stay is at Salt Lake City and rent a car. What is the drive like to the Canyons from Salt Lake City? Heber City is relatively inexpensive, close to Park CIty, and the road is easier than the climb from SLC. Of course, it is harder to get to the other resorts. |

What do you think about Solitude and Snow Basin? Solitude might be a good choice. It has a much less intense feel than alta/snowbird. It has interesting groomers and plenty of ungroomed. If you stay on bus line in SLC you won't need a car. Buy a discounted bus/ski pass right from your motel. -- Mike Treseler Does the bus line go to all the resorts in Park City as well as in the Cottonwoods. I went online and could not find much information concerning bus shuttles. Thanx in advance |

If you're looking for a vacation holiday, with dining and partying and some incidental skiing it makes no sense to stay in SLC and commute to the Canyons - stay in Park City. I do like the Canyons ski slopes better than Park City ski area or Deer Valley, so skiing there is the right move FOR the neighborhood. If it's really skiing you're after, and incidentally you have to sleep and eat, can the Park City area, stay in the small communities at the mouth of the Cottonwood canyons and drive 20 minutes up-canyon to ski. Scratch Brighton - infested with boarders and a wuss hill, but Alta and Snowbird live up to their reputation; Solitude completely outstrips it's reputation (not really have one to start with) and is recommended. There's allot of skiing near SLC, even if you don't want to climb for turns. What is the drive like to the Canyons from Salt Lake City? Freeway - ugly drive both scenery and traffic. |

My wife did not want to rent a car. This package includes everything. Ground transportation to and from the airport, transportation to Park City Resorts as well as the Cottonwoods and discount lift tickets. I was just about to book a SLC package and I checked the newsgroups first. Thanx for your help. Alan |

Buy a discounted bus/ski pass right from your motel. But make sure you're on the SKI bus line, as most of the town buses in SLC don't run on Sundays. The ski buses do, however. For Snowbasin, you'll need a car... I think there is some kind of bus or van that goes there, but I'm not sure about that. Snowbasin's great though, well worth a go. And Powder Mountain! Nice mellow cruiser with awesome snow and some nice stuff out off the cat. -- ant Don't try to reply to my email addy: I'm borrowing that of the latest scammer/spammer |

There's no useful public transport between SLC and PC. There's various vans, like Canyon Hop, and the airport shuttles (pricey, but they are there). PC has an excellent town bus system that runs nights and sundays and everything in between, and it's FREE. SLC has a reasonable ski bus system, that costs a bit, and a good town bus system that shuts down on Sundays and contracts horribly at night (and ceases pretty-much at night). -- ant Don't try to reply to my email addy: I'm borrowing that of the latest scammer/spammer |

That sounds correct and is the reason I chose the Super 8 motel. They arrange shuttle service to get you to and from the motel and resorts in Park City as well as the Cottonwoods. |
