California/Tahoe relocation suggestions?

It occurred to me that you might want to talk to folks with
the Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers (www.sndd.org). They race and
train on public lands in the Sierras and members live all
over the region, from Reno to the Bay Area.

Anywhere below 4K feet you can bike year round in
the Sierra foothills. Unless you insist on groomed trails you can easily
ski from Nov-May in most years. Groomed skiing runs from Dec to
mid April usually.

_ It's hard to tell from just blasting past to go skiing, but I
think there are more small towns on the smaller routes like 88
and 20 ( or 108 or 4 or 49 ). On 80 and 50 the closer you get to
the mountains the more pressure there will be on the local
housing prices.

I'd suggest taking a look at Bozeman, but this move appears to be
family related. Bozeman is year round sports. The problem is fairly
high housing costs, tho perhaps lower than Tahoe, but low wages for the
most part.

_ I could suggest 30 or 40 towns that would work, the problem is
getting a job that will support a family. Basically, anywhere
along rt 49 in the Sierra foothills would meet your
descriptions. If you want to ski out your back door (literally,)
that means somewhere above 5-6K feet and that limits the choices
(and the road biking IMHO) a lot. If you can live with 30 mins
driving to ski that's quite different. There is a lot of job
and housing growth along the rt 20 corridor, east and north of
Auburn.

As for jobs, I'm pretty flexible, and an outlying area might have
