After the big event next year, I will be taking a couplf off weeks to
tour around CO. I've already skiied Breck., a fair proportion of Vail,
Aspen & Buttermilk in that region. I hear good things about Butte,
Steamboat, any personal favourites?

C.Butte is terrific. I quite liked Aspen Highlands too. I only did
one day at Steamboat, which felt like skiing an overgrown Midwest hill
- spend your money elsewhere, IMHO.

Crested Butte is nice. Telluride is pretty good, but different
terrain.

I like Monarch and Wolf Creek for the snow. I have always had great
powder days whenever I visited either one of those areas. They may be
small and the terrain a bit lacking at Wolf Creek but they always have
good snow. Monarch also used to run cats up Chicago Ridge. Don't
know if they still do but it's worth checking out.

Also, A-Basin would be a good one. With the new lift on the backside,
the Basin is almost doubling its terrain this year.

I also like Beaver Creek. Lots of terrain and it usually isn't very
crowded.

If you've got a couple of weeks, ski a bunch of areas. You can find
discounted tickets in the Denver area for the front range areas.
Summit County has lots of lodging if you want to ski Copper, Breck.,
Keystone and/or Arapahoe. An easy drive from there to Monarch (BTW,
Chicago Ridge is at Ski Cooper, not Monarch) for a day until going on
to CB. Again, lots of places to stay between Gunnison, CB, and Mt
CB. Telluride is maybe three hours from CB. All of'em are good
choices. Get to CB and I'll give you some unhelpful "locals" tips.

For something completely different, try my absolute favorite -
Silverton. You won't soon forget skiing there.

That's the unvarnished truth. But if you're coming from the lowlands,
put it at the end of the trip. It's up there, and hiking is involved,
so the more acclimatized you are, the bigger the payoff.
