Default Caught a fish dinner while skiing!

I often ski past a lake that has a couple openings in the ice near the
shore. A couple days ago I noticed there were thousands of minnows in
the openings, all sipping air. There were bigger fish in there, too. All
different kinds. I called the DNR and they said it was a winterkill,
oxygen deprivation (without a tent). There were hundreds of dead ones,
too. So today I took a little kiddy frognet with me (and my license and
a fishpole) and skied out there again and lashed a sapling to the net
with one of my ski boot laces (it proved too short otherwise) and netted
a bunch of plump perch. Man, it was tricky getting them. They are
smarter and livelier than the others. It was quite a challenge. They'd
get shy and I'd stand there til they drifted back in sight. There were a
couple huge bowfins in there, too. The perch were full of roe. I looked
it up online and see that it's considered tasty. I also found that
bowfin also have a roe and make an excellent sturgeon substitute. As in,
not mediocre. I think I'll go back! --With a better net this time. Gonna
have a regular fishfry. And caviar feast. Better than letting them all
croak and feed only crows.
