TR Jackson followup, Alta today

Jackson Hole was skiing late spring - firm in the am, slushing in the
pm. Actually very nice IMO; The best snow was on north facing terrain
(surprise! bet you didn't suspect at all) like the Bivouac trees off
Rendezvous Trail dropping into Cheyenne Bowl. I also liked (always do -
visit it every time I ski Jackson Hole) the chaotic terrain and wind
eroded snow in Tensleep Bowl. Seems like it gets no traffic - weren't
more than 2 sets of tracks in the bowl when I skied into it a couple of
days ago. Didn't try the out of bounds this trip, since I didn't have a
local for a guide and the snow wasn't good enough to induce buying a
guide. Maybe next time. You never get jaded when the Tetons are in view
- what a setting - magnificant.

Alta today was newly cold - cold front moved in over night. Reports were
spring conditions earlier in the week, so everything froze up solid with
the cold, and didn't soften much. Devils Castle and Greeley had the best
snow (being more north facing, it was quite decent - especially if you
went far enough along the DC traverse to get to the steep wind eroded
snow - nice weird texture that skied interestingly. Wife stayed on the
groomed and had a good time as well. Sure miss the couple of feet of
fresh I had on the last visit, but it's nice to get out to Alta again,
anyway.

Probably try Solitude tomorrow.
