Naxo NX21 AT binding--- Anyone using these?
Ah yes, thank you. REI actually is out of the Fritschi Freeride Plus,
but they have the Naxo NX21. The Naxo after coupon would be $225.00 or so. http://www.rei.com/online/store/Sear...REI_S EARCH:C If I'm getting Fritschis it'll be from Backcountry.com there, the link you gave. :-) Have to decide if it's worth the more money to me for Fritschis. Chris |

Chris You might want to check out www.wildsnow.com. Lots of info on AT gear over there including gear reviews and mods. Lou Dawson (the resident guru) recently said: Quote: Before I write more about Pure, be it known that all AT bindings break. Dynafit heel units explode, Freerides get smashed, and Naxos snap. Ski touring bindings are always a compromise between weight and durability, with the needle shifting from one end of the scale to the other depending on what part of the market bindings are intended for. But breakage reports I hear about bindings other than Pure are usually associated with high mileage bindings or harsh beater falls. In the case of Pure (through this year's models) the breakage I witness or hear of appears to occur more in normal use. /Quote Armin |

I would like to take this opportunity to say that I have never had a tele binding break. Given that, if I were going AT, I would get the Fritschi, because your friends will be carrying spare parts and tools. Thank you. That is all. ; -klaus |

Hey sweet, thank you for the link.
I read Lou's 54 Classic Ski and Snowboard Descents book about 6 times. Awesome. I even did a couple of them. Thanks for the site--- gonna go do some reading now! Chris |

Naxo NX21 AT binding--- Anyone using these?
Hey, thanks for your opinion too, Dave.
I dunno why I'm having such a hard time getting my brain around the binding thing. I like the idea of being able to tour without the weight and clankiness of Alpine Trekkers. I kinda like the way the Naxo NX21 "looks" more like an alpine binding. Makes me think it might act more like one too. Nowadays if I go back to Whistler I spend about half-day inbounds and half-day in the backcountry. Inbounds there's no telling where I will end up, including minor tricks in the terrain park if it's not too firm in there! :-) The thing is, I need bindings that are okay for when my dad wants to go somewhere like *gasp* Vail and I'm gonna be inbounds completely on whatever conditions for 3-4 days, too. I just gave my old Bandit XXXs to someone so I can't get AT bindings for those and stick with my alpine bindings for my new skis (which are K2 Apache Chiefs.) It would seem from all that I've read that both the Freerides and Naxos behave 90% the same as alpine bindings anyway, yes? Thanks a ton to all you fellas for responding. Chris |
