The sort of boot I'm after are like the Garmont Tour, 75mm binding.
Suitable for off-track touring. The makers list them on their
website, but it seems that importers/retailers feel there is
insufficient demand to be worth stocking.

I ordered garmont Tour from Norpine.com in January 2003. The boot
is still listed on their web site ($185 US). They are in California.
They had no problem Shipping to Canada. I am not sure about
europe though.

I will look, thanks.

You might contact Treski in Norway. They sell wood skis, they
probably know where to buy leather boots. Their e-mail is
info[at]treski.no and web site is www.treski.no.

Useful lead, thanks.

Please pass the information if you find more. You are not the only
one.

So I gather, I found one US retail site bemoaning the lack of classic
leather boots. I hope that eventually someone realises there is a small
niche market and starts to fill it.

What size do you need? I have one pair that gives me blisters
and
pair a bit too large. They are size 12 US (Alolo Snowfield II)
and 12UK (12 1/2 US Garmont Combination Plus). Both are heavier
than the Garmont tour though.

UK 10 / Europe 45 are where I start looking. I suspect your boots are too
big for me.

Can anyone suggest a supplier with stock ? Or other makers of boots ?
I guess its likely to be in Norway, so a shop which can discuss things in
English and/or mail order to the UK would be useful.

Try this link - I haven't used them myself so can't recommend.
http://www.telemark-pyrenees.com/ - Run by a Brit.
Also any of the Norwegian retailers should be able to communicate in
English.

Huge! Seriously though, I wouldn't book your next XC holiday to
England, unless you would like to come to a roller ski-ing event.
There's quite a bit in Scotland. It is nearly all off-track. I only
know of one place where tracks are cut on a regular basis. I usually
ski in Norway or the Alps, although I have ski-ed in London in a very
cold winter.

We sometimes get posts from a stockist in the Pyrenees, perhaps
you could try him for advice

Try Recreational Equipment Incorporated (REI).

Useful website, I will bookmark and explore more thoroughly later.

They list some makes & models that I was not aware of.

Besides REI in Seattle, WA, USA, also contact Mountain Equipment Coop
out of Vancouver, BC, CA. www.mec.ca

There are limits on the ski gear they can ship outside of Canada, but
both outfits will do international orders.

LL Bean may still have some trad XC ski gear, but I tend to doubt much
of the sort you want. www.LLBean.com

I would tend to think that the shops which sell leather XC ski boots
will also have waxable skis, which means relatively few.

Happy trails,

Have them on the bookmark list already.
Website only lists track boots or plastic "downhill-telemark" style boots.

Thanks for the thought.

Yes, I hope they can.

However, I need some names, addresses, etc...

I know.
I have rung and spoken to the owners of each of the shops in the UK which
stock cross-country gear. Most of those shops do not have websites.

Have you spoken to the Glenmore Shop & Cafe? They had some leather boots
in last season.

Its a very small activity.
There are few places which get enough snow to ski in England (a bit in the
pennines some years on the odd day). A week or two of ski-able snow in
Scotland if lucky.

At least six weeks in the Highlands last winter, which was quite poor.
There were over two weeks when I could ski from the front door.

No, I wasn't aware that they sold gear.

I'll ring them tomorrow and see if they have anything.

Good luck. They also hire out leather Nordic ski boots. The owner is a
Nordic skier.
