Default Fix for cracked boots

I posted recently about the one inch cracks that have developed in my
4 year old, Lange Mad Max's. I brought the boots back to shop where I
purchased them. The staff acted helpful, but didn't do anything
substantial. They offered to call Lange to see if they would provide
any compensation, but there were no promises. I'll take them up on the
offer. They seemed to think that there was only a one year warranty on
the boots.

The salesman also suggested that I drill a hole at the end of the crack
to prevent the crack from spreading. Has anybody tried this ? I hope that
this works, because the boots are still usable with the current size of the
crack. I would like to keep using these boots, because they are broken in
and fit perfectly.

Thanks for any assistance.

John

Yeah- that's standard procedure; it works. Be sure your drill hole is at
the end of the crack, so the crack isn't pre-propagated beyound the hole.

You also drill a hole to stop cut propagation when slitting boot cuffs
to soften the flex. Common boot adjustment technique, not seen too often
these days, but still should be in every bootfitter's toolbox.
