Default Helmets for tots

Whats the consensus on helmets for tiny tots. From what I understand, pro
is prevention of head injury, con is danger of spinal injury due to mass
and/or preasure from the shell on spine. At what age does the pro outweigh
the con especially since at very young ages they are probably not skiing at
speed on their own.

Opinions and links appreciated.

One side benefit... If your kids are like the ones that I've seen, they
love to go into trees. Helmet can save them, and the adults who follow them
closely, from being whacked in the head by branches and the like.

As far as the mass/weight goes, these helmets weigh hardly anything. I have
yet heard a complaint from a kid.
