There are some "strange" liquor laws in Utah. I think in grocery
stores the beer is 3.2% just as it is in Colorado. In Utah the state own and runs the liquor stores and there you can buy booze and 5% beer. In some restaurants and in all of the private clubs you can get booze and 5% beer. If you stay at a hotel, you are automatically a member of their club. If you want to join an outside private club there is a fee, like $5 or $10. Of course if you are driving to Utah you can always bring your own |

In the grog shop here (in oz) tonight, saw a slab of small bottles of
Budweiser piled out the front. For $49 a slab. So lamb might be crazy prices in the US, but US crappy beer is crazy prices here. In the US, that beer is much cheaper than our mass produced beer here. My solace was that whoever bought it, would feel angrily ripped off when they drank it. -- ant http://www.dcita.gov.au/tel/do_not_call to make your comment on proposals to limit telemarketing |

I did get some of this stuff via google, but the party laws and Squatters links were perfect. Cheers, Jeff |

Cause the name "squatters" kinda draws an image to mind of Klaus's shack outback. Not exactly appetizing.... //Walt |

You'd know better than me, Haven't drunk it in years. It's quite hard to find here. We stopped drinking it in the 80s. -- ant http://www.dcita.gov.au/tel/do_not_call to make your comment on proposals to limit telemarketing |

Buttwiper and Coors are both above 4.5 percent. If use the same unit of measure, weight, Bud & Coors are 4.0 (5.0 by volume). 3.2 by weight is 4.0 by volume. Don't mix your measures! Not much difference between 3.2 and 4.0 beer if you ask me. They're both equally wimpy. You just drink 5 to get the effect of 4. To get better beer, you need to visit Canada or better yet Australia. American microbreweries are making great beer nowadays, but the bigs still don't. Maybe you enjoy "that crisp, clean, plywood-aged taste of Buttweiser" but give me a Sierra Nevada any day. |

Let me lay it out for ya: In the US, the alcoholic content of beer is measured by weight. In most of the rest of the world, including Canada and Australia, it's measured by volume. Since ethanol is less dense than water, 4% by weight is the same concentration as 5% by volume. Or stated another way, take a bottle of Bud that's 4% by weight and carry it across the border into Canada and it "magically" changes into 5% 'cause you measure by volume there. Get it? No? Then be sure to bring a heavy coat next time you go to Canada because the temperature can drop by as much as 50 degrees as soon as you cross the border. Anyway, the quality of the beer and it's alcohol content are loosely correlated if they're correlated at all. //Walt |
