I have rung and spoken to the owners of each of the shops in the UK which stock cross-country gear. Most of those shops do not have websites. Have you spoken to the Glenmore Shop & Cafe? They had some leather boots in last season. Success ! Thanks Chris. They have Alico Blaize boots, and a pair are "in the post" on approval. No idea if they will be the correct shape for my feet, find out when they arrive and get tested on the living room carpet. From the makers website photos, they look "about right" in terms of design and position in the maker's range. - Nigel -- NC - Webmaster for http://www.2mm.org.uk/ Replies to newsgroup postings to the newsgroup please. |

When you check fit, aside from the usual hiking boot fit tests, also check how they feel when flexed, as in your back foot after kicking off. With any winter boot, constriction is not just a matter of comfort, but slowing circulation can also lead to frostbite. The further you get from shelter, the more important that gets. After exhausing the cross country ski specialists in the UK (Aviemore*2, Braemar, Ilkley), I find that nobody carries traditional leather touring boots and does not plan to get stock in the future. I've done some Google searching for retailers with no success. This is a bit of a problem as I really don't want to go to plastic touring boots; I'm of the view they are second-best and over-heavy for what I want to do, and would force me onto wider skis, etc... The sort of boot I'm after are like the Garmont Tour, 75mm binding. Suitable for off-track touring. The makers list them on their website, but it seems that importers/retailers feel there is insufficient demand to be worth stocking. Can anyone suggest a supplier with stock ? Or other makers of boots ? I guess its likely to be in Norway, so a shop which can discuss things in English and/or mail order to the UK would be useful. Thanks for any suggestions ; please post replies. If you need to email me, go to the contacts page on the website below. regards, - Nigel I use a pair of Karhu boots that are mostly leather (some fabric, and poly coated leather). If you are looking for the high hiking style boot, with 3 pin toe, I can reccomend these as quite nice. I think this years model is the Sirius. gr |

No, I wasn't aware that they sold gear. I'll ring them tomorrow and see if they have anything. Good luck. They also hire out leather Nordic ski boots. The owner is a Nordic skier. Welcome back Chris. We've not heard from you for a while. Been away? Another book in the offing? Mike |

I doubted anyone else here would know the Glenmore Shop/Cafe sold Nordic ski boots. There's always a book in the offing :-). I'm working on two at the moment. I was away for two weeks in May, walking across the Scottish Highlands. |
