Default 1080 vs B2s

Has anyone seen any ski reviews on how the new Rossi B2s fare against the
Salomon 1080s for an all purpose mountain ski, on and off piste important!

cheers,

greg

They are pricey arn't they? 890E RRP, although I'm sure you could get
them for nearer 800E. Like the XX it replaces an excellent all round
ski but maybe slightly oriented to off-piste (witnessed by the 190cm
max length which is long these days) rather than blasting down pistes.
Skieur magazine rated it one of the top 3 freeride skis.

Paraphrasing Ski and Board magazine, they rated the Rossi B2 it as the best
in it's class (Freeride Expert). Said it had few weaknesses. The only one it
mentioned was that some testers felt it was a little soft for aggressive
carving. They reckoned it was equally at home on or off piste, saying it was
quick edge to edge and carves well. Smooth and stable in all conditions,
more forgiving at slow speeds, powerful and inspiring at high speeds. Last
sentence in the review was "Overall, a fantastic ski, with almost no
faults - an inspiring all-mountain weapon."

Salomon's equivalent was the Scream Pilot Hot.

Same magazine put the Salomon 1080 in a different class - Freestyle. It says
it lacks grip on hard snow and is slow edge to edge. Says it's light and
very easy to use, quick to pivot, stable on landing. Great choice for the
parks or for fresh snow. Performs best in deep snow and crud.

Rossi equivalent was the Scratch FS.

Really speaking, it looks like you're trying to compare oranges with apples.
The B2 is aimed at all mountain, which is why I want them. The 1080 is aimed
at snowparks and deep stuff. You can't really compare them.

If you want all mountain, the B2 seems to be everyone's favourite (no, I
don't work for Rossignol, before anyone says anything!! I'm after these skis
so I've been reading loads of reviews) but it's up against some good skis.

If you want freestyle and tricks, then the 1080 is up there too.

Work out what you want and then find somewhere you can demo them. At the end
of the day, you'll know how good you think they are when you try them
out.... just like I'll find out what the B2's are like in Val Cenis in
january..... I can hear my credit card whimpering already!!! LOL

Hope I've helped,

Schneck

Hi Schneck,

I've read those same reviews, however the 1080 was getting good reviews as
an all round ski, but no-one seems to test it as such!

Hopefully I'll try both this weekend in Val D'Isere.

regards,

greg

My wife uses one as her all-round ski and I'll probably get a pair
this year. I see them, in a shorter size (~180), complimenting my 191
Bandit 2Xs, rather than replacing them, as I reckon the latter will
still be better in deep powder and for fast on-piste work, whereas the
1080 gives perhaps even more flexibility for less predictable
off-piste as well as messing about in the jam park.

Yeah, I have heard that. I think they originally marketed as a trick ski...
it was one of THE skis when the whole nuskool stuff started up, wasn't?
Maybe Salomon are trying to steer it another way. From the advice I've
sought other than reviews, the B2 does exactly what I want... 50/50 off/on
piste. The 1080 is more specialised off piste and tricks. But having never
tried them, I don't know. I'll probably try the Scream's and the B2 when I
get in resort, though.

Hopefully I'll try both this weekend in Val D'Isere.

You lucky bleeder!! All I have to look forward to is Tamworth... more slush
please!!
