Fallback Options
I'm coming into Park City for a business meeting on Dec 5-7 and decided
to add a few (4) days with a buddy up front to visit Snowbird and Alta. However, with temps in the high 50s and no snow in sight until after Thanksgiving I'm considering the options. I'd appreciate any thoughts: 1) Trust that Ullr hasn't deserted the Utahns for still supporting Bush (still high 50s -- like the temps) and that it will be snowing when I arrive on the 30th. 2) Getting in the car and driving till it gets colder and deeper. I'd put the limit on this at 6 hours. From mapquest, etc that looks like it could get us to Grand Targhee (30+inches mid mountain and open). 3) Just be grateful I'm making turns anywhere. The season doesn't start in Pennsylvania for another month. Any other recommendations than Targhee in terms of base per hour of travel? -- Tom McK |

A great day exploring the desert seems better than a bad day of skiing. Just my opinion. Beware of weather. -klaus |

Still thinking about heading to the desert?
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/slc/projects...dForecast.php? Now, I'm wondering if I need a fallback for getting into LCC on Wednesday. If it pleases Ullr http://squall.sfsu.edu/gif/jetstream_pac_h72_00.gif |

Now, I'm wondering if I need a fallback for getting into LCC on Wednesday. Are you staying in LCC? If not, they'll get you somewhere reasonable. If it pleases Ullr http://squall.sfsu.edu/gif/jetstream_pac_h72_00.gif It's looking pretty good for your arrival. They're calling for almost two feet by Sunday night and then the big one comes in. The second storm is coming from the Gulf of Alaska and it's supposed to be pretty cold. This early in the year, the lake is pretty warm and the storm is coming from the NW. I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least 5 feet by late next week. We usually get a big sustained dumper around Thanksgiving. They usually average a foot a day for 6-10 days. This is setting up like it could be one of those. So did you burn skis, drink beer, or sacrifice a virgin? Whatever it was, it shure upped your odds. -klaus |

That doesn't help, I know, but it's still good news. bw |
