Well, we're not exactly the poster child for minding our own
business.

We should be, though. Seems like we had to apologize for being American even
when we weren't evil.

And I like Kim Chee. Tasty stuff. I make it myself from
fresh cabbage sometimes. Takes a while to ferment but lovely aroma.

Uh, OK. Perhaps you might find it a useful training aid for Chava. Maybe
smear the dear and moose with it...

Important point, and kinda ties in with the whole Greek soldier bit,
but seriously, wtf are you people on about with oral sex? We're doing
trojan war/iraq war analogies here. Comeon, stick with the program.

Sorry.. got distracted by the blowjob. Back On Topic. Do you really
believe Trojans are ribbed for _her_ pleasure?

Of course, some of us did realize at the time that the WMD stuff was an
elaborate snipe hunt, but as Astro put it so succinctly, we "didn't
matter." And while I can handle being consigned to the "doesn't matter"
bin (hey, I'm used to it) the fact is that Hans Blix and his team of UN
inspectors were put in the "doesn't matter" bin as well. If that's not
an indictment of the decision makers, I don't know what is.

But if St. Hans Blix knew there was nothing there, why did he keep
looking ? Surely he should have been screaming that it was a waste of
time, but maybe then he'd have lost his job...

I think there were very few people that thought there were no WMDs at
the time. We know Saddam had already used them against his own people in
the past. UN resolutions were passed about it, not vetoed by members of
the Security Council, like France and Russia did later. Of course they
knew what materiel they were supply him under "Oil for food" :/

I agree that Iraq wasn't an immediate threat or that the 45 minute claim
was ever a reality, but everyone "knew" they had WMDs at the time. Hell,
if the powers-that-be knew it was all a sham, surely they'd have been
smart enough to make sure "something" was found when the invasion was
complete ?

Actually, given the mess they made post-invasion, don't answer that

But, you are correct that prior to the spring of 2003, most people
thought the possibility was likely enough to back forced inspections.
It was when the inspections came up empty that Bush and Company pushed
the panic button and invaded before Blix had a chance to report that
inconvenient fact back to the UN.

I don't buy that - how much time did he need ? The panic button took
weeks to happen, it wasn't a "push the button and watch the ICBMs fly"
scenario. Why didn't he start screaming as soon as he saw the way things
were going with Bush/Blair ? Why didn't his "inconvenient fact" get
reported when B/B tried to get UN backing for the war ?

Yup. Next year... The DIL is going to do Xmas, and she'll
doubtless get GOOD turkeys because since she's been buying organic
stuff the 6-YO grandspawn has lost his chronic cough.

That's a worry. Do they know what it was that was causing it?
We get organic (or free range) poultry for the taste, mainly.

No. The doc (a real one, not the HMO quack) ran a lot of tests and
came up with nothing at all. Cutting out non-organic foods seems to
have done the trick, though.

Probably not so much the "organic" as paying closer attention to diet.
Kids'll eat a lot of junk if you let 'em.

Yeah, but the cough is puzzling, an odd reaction to food and/or chemicals.

they had to gloss over that, as the film would have been rated R because it
contained child abuse.

No one "knew", but a lot of us were bloody sure there were no WMD and argued
the point strenuously, which was not a popular move.

For some reason, someone needed to have a war with Iraq.

He? ICBM? Nobody is suggesting that Hussein had icbms.

Our ICBMs dumbass. You gonna address the question about Blix ?

Got any quotes on when you (or anyone else here for that matter) argued
this pre-war ?
