They're also called "bumps".

The term is also (inaccurately) applied to the sort of transverse,
rhythmless parallel ridges that form on a slope that sees a lot of
snowboards.

Finally, this whole mogul thing turns into a
competition. For instance the Olympic mogul
competition, with people flying off jumps placed in
the middle of the mogul run.

A sport designed for people who hate their knees!

Default Moguls: The ugly truth

I am taking a great personal risk to reveal the truth behind how moguls
are formed in a picture that I captured in a scene rarely occurring
during daylight. I have placed a copy of this file in a secret location
with instructions to have it sent to that national press should I not be
heard from again.

Some may find this cruelty shocking. Even though it is safe for work
viewing, you may find the horror of mogul making too much to bear:

YUMMMMMMMM! Mikey, you're killing me. At the end of last year they
had closed down the A-Lift runs at Copper, but we got 20" or so one
night so we'd poach it and shuttle back to the Super Bee. It was some
of the most fun I had all year. (I seem to say that about a lot of
days though.) Fresh tracks forEVER. It was really cool to really
zipper it one run, and then examine your tracks.

A-lift is THE place to be at Copper when they get a massive dump. My
best powder day ever was spoent their with my boss and the CFO of Copper...

Yes, the weaker ones meet this fate. The evil instructor creatures force
the surviving child laborers to bury them in patterns around the fall
line. It got even more gruesome with the advent of shorter skis and
skiers expecting truncated, choppy moguls - I can't even stand to think
about it.

The horror.

Now it makes sense why it feels like the snow jumps up and grabs my
skis, making me fall. Snow snakes indeed. Just children's arms. It is
all very clear to me now...
