Torrents from Sapporo '07 available?
I see that some were put up last year. I've only ever downloaded one
torrent before, but when I tried getting anything from last year's links nothing happened. I don't really know what torrents are/do, but I guess they're freshness-dated. JFT says the course footage is exciting so I'd like to check it out. Thanks for any tips, links. -- JP |

Try download.com (run by CNET). e.g. http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.ht...earch&tag=srch I'm not saying there's a virus in torrentmaster; just that it's not a good idea to download an exe and install it without knowing anything about the source and I was unable to get any independent info on torrentmaster. What I did find is several torrent sites that have torrentmaster as a bit torrent - using p2p to get an exe is even scarier than going to an unknown server, in my book. I haven't checked out any of the torrent search programs on download.com either, but at least I can do a little research before I put my machine at risk. just a note of caution - all the best, Bob |

Torrents from Sapporo '07 available?
I've had a devil of a time trying to see these vids.
None of my computers seem able to play these torrents right! Something is always not just right with the Codecs, etc. The best I got was audio. Then my best WinXP machine suddenly stops playing YouTube at all! (It says Javascript not on and/or Flash not up to date---both untrue---I googled this glitch and got many hits from people who got the same error---with many fixes, non of which worked for me. UGH!) I then watched that YouTube clip on another machine---it has a lame skidding turn on what visually appears as an unattractive downhill-- not much of a hill, in other words. But some of the skiers who came by in a bunch did go faster and didn't skid as much and did have cool ski form but only for about one second. ---This kind of hill and/or footage can't help XC TV popularity. |

Is TV popularity of the sport increasing or decreasing? It doesn't seem like it gets over here to the US, in English, any more than ever---despite all the new technology. *IF* TV cameras are getting smaller and cheaper that would SEEM to be a good thing for televising "remote" events like XC. Other "remote" events like survivalism, of course, have exploded on TV. And on the Net---thanks to small, cheap vid-cams. Are there sports with the elements you think are important that are growing on TV? Survival shows, as mentioned, seem to readily catch the dynamic aspects of remote outdoor action. It seems like the Extreme sports are booming---and in skisport they're now going for the MASSED format, from what I've noticed, for the most pop type of skiing. Skicross is all over YouTube anyway. XC has always had it---but no media have ever tried to use that angle to give XC any pop appeal that I can tell. But, sadly, XC has only gotten onto US TV for Oly's and until recently that was intervals only, wasn't it? It seems as though the PR of XC just flounders and flounders forever. I hope that's not the case---I just haven't ever noticed the slightest media buzz about it. What's really sad is that the XC women skiers have always been the most attractive winter athletes---but the media hasn't even lingered on them or found a way to attract viewers that way. And the guys have cool suits, too. It's a good-looking sport but it's like the media have worked as hard as they can to pigeonhole XC in with curling. Well, US media anyway. Road cycling seems to be doing better on TV by comparison. ....But real numbers would be good to have. Would there be any US XC footage this winter for them to rate? (Whew!) |
