Feldberg Report

Following recommendations from this group, we spent a few days in Feldberg.
(3.5 hours drive from Frankfurt-Hahn airport which we flew to for £248
for all 6 of us!).

It was the end of the season and the snow was slushy, not helped by the
rain. Still good enough for the time of year though and all but 2 lifts
were working.

We stayed in Hinterzarten nearby (3 bedroom flat for EUR 70 per night!!!)
and drove 20 mins to the Grafenmatt area of Feldberg. Ski hire at
SkiSchule Thoma was excellent. Cheery staff and reasonable equipment at
good prices. (EUR 10 per set). On the other hand, we had reason to hire
some gear from the place nearby I think called OnSnow. The person was rude
and offensive to my wife and only the intervention of her instructor
prevented a worse scene. It was also more expensive. Avoid.

Would we go back to Feldberg again? Well, probably not unless we were in
the area. It's good for a short break but anyone used to larger areas
would find it a bit restrictive. Somewhere between a Scottish ski area and
an alpine super-area I would say. But for a short, good-value break it was
ideal.
